There was always going to be an element of pressure that came with training the impeccably bred Unbelievable, but Frankie Lor Fu-chuen is now feeling the added pinch that comes with a rushed Hong Kong Derby campaign.

By Justify out of Together Forever, Unbelievable – formerly named Bertinelli – is a full brother to Europe’s champion juvenile of 2023, City Of Troy, and began his career under the masterful Aidan O’Brien.

Bought to race for the Frankie Lor Trainer Syndicate, the four-year-old colt lines up in Monday’s Class Three Red Packet Handicap (1,600m) after two trials in Hong Kong.

“He hasn’t been lucky. Early December I wanted to trial him but suddenly he had a temperature. I started to work him again and he got a quarter crack in his hoof,” Lor said.

“I have been waiting for this race. Everything revolves around the Derby but it’s all a bit rushed. He’s still not 100 per cent fit. We need to give him a run and then we will know more about him.”

Last seen when running a length and a half behind King Charles’ Desert Hero under Ryan Moore in the King George V Stakes (2,392m) during last year’s Royal Ascot carnival, Unbelievable’s biggest win for O’Brien also came in tandem with Moore in the London Gold Cup (2,000m) at Newbury in May last year.

“He’s a brother to City Of Troy and we always thought he was a serious horse,” O’Brien told the Post while in Hong Kong for December’s international races.

“He’ll get a mile and a quarter and be very happy at a mile and a half. He’s a big horse and all he was going to do was get better.

“He could be a very, very serious horse. He’ll love fast ground, he’s very straightforward and he could be absolutely anything.”
