Keith Yeung Ming-lun is hoping the return to a successful track and distance can get the best out of Find My Love in Sunday’s Class Two TVB Cup (1,400m) at Sha Tin.

Yeung guided Find My Love to consecutive victories over 1,400m at Sha Tin late last season and was also on board for the Frankel gelding’s three seconds at the same track and distance.

Trainer Manfred Man Ka-leung has tested Find My Love over more ground at his past three starts, which included runs at Happy Valley and on Sha Tin’s all-weather track.

His best result was a last-start fifth behind All For St Paul’s in the Class Two Egret Handicap (1,650m), in which he jumped awkwardly and was bumped shortly after the start.

“We’ve been trying a few different things with him but after going to Happy Valley and the all-weather track, it seems 1,400m is best,” Yeung said. “Even for me, I did suggest I thought the horse could handle a bit further so we tried it.”

Luck has deserted Find My Love throughout this season, including late in a race at Sha Tin in November when he was bumped heavily by Tuchel in an incident which led to Yeung and Hugh Bowman falling.

However, the five-year-old quickly bounced back at his following start to run second to Drombeg Banner at his favourite track and distance.

“He proved himself again in his next run,” Yeung said. “In this class, he needs the barrier and pace to go right, but he hasn’t got that lately.”

Find My Love gallops on the all-weather track at Sha Tin.

In an open Class Two on Sunday, Find My Love must overcome a wide draw in barrier 10.

“From that barrier there’s not much you can do, but the problem is they always go so slow in Class Two,” Yeung said.

“The pace always seems so slow. I’ll see what I can do. He has got some gate speed, so I will probably see if I can slot him in somewhere near midfield, not too far back.”

Yeung has a book of seven rides at Sha Tin as he aims to add to his tally of eight winners this season.

He believes Sports Legend and Green Laser are capable of showing improvement in the Class Three TVB Pok Oi Charity Show Handicap (1,200m) and Class Five TVB Charity Fund Handicap (1,800m), respectively.

“He has improved a lot and I think Danny [Shum Chap-shing] has some hope in him, too. He thinks he will run well,” Yeung said ahead of Sports Legend’s dirt assignment.

“I think Green Laser can still win one or two races. Last time he got a good barrier and I tried to bring him out at the 400m. Then he made contact with the outside horse and got intimidated and just gave up.

“I think he just wants to be left alone and given plenty of room and then he will finish off nicely.”

Yeung is also hopeful of maintaining the ride on Hong Kong Derby prospect Fallon in the Classic Cup (1,800m) on March 3.

“I am trialling him next Tuesday, that’s for sure, and I will try to keep the ride,” Yeung said.
