He signed off his first Hong Kong stint with a flurry of winners and now Richard Kingscote is hoping to pick up where he left off after a golden summer back home in the United Kingdom.
Successful with four of the final 11 rides of his stint as injury cover earlier this year – including a Sha Tin dirt treble – Kingscote orchestrated Group One boil-overs aboard Time For Sandals in the Commonwealth Cup and Qirat in the Sussex Stakes – the latter at a record 150-1 – before turning his attention back to Hong Kong.
“I had a great summer. It was fantastic,” said Kingscote. “A couple of Group Ones and a few other nice winners.
“I don’t know if it was that coming here did my riding well, but it was a great summer and it’s good to come back here on a positive note rather than things not going great back home. It’s great to be back.”

Licensed until February, Kingscote has his eye on a more permanent stay in Hong Kong and his wife Ashleigh and their two boys will fly out to join him next month.
“I’ll see how it goes. Obviously if I can get a full licence, then great. The family are coming over next month so it’s an open book really. It will be nice if we can get some winners going and see how the system works,” he said.
“It will be a great experience for the boys to see a new culture and I think it will be good for the whole family.”
While much of the Hong Kong racing experience is still new to Kingscote, his partner in Wednesday night’s Happy Valley finale is very much a familiar face.

Successful aboard the Ricky Yiu Poon-fai-trained Giant Leap in April, Kingscote reunites with the five-year-old for the Class Three Wan Chai Handicap (1,200m).
“Luckily I get to get back on him. Obviously he did well after I left as well, with a win and another place, so I’m delighted to get a ride on him again from Ricky. Obviously the draw has not been very kind but we’ll see what we can do,” said Kingscote, who partners Giant Leap from gate 10.
Yiu provided Kingscote with three of his four Hong Kong victories last season and the jockey’s other two rides at the midweek meeting, Harry’s Hero and Romantic Party, are also prepared by the veteran handler.
While thrilled to again receive Yiu’s support, Kingscote is also pleased to have more of a spread of rides awaiting him at Sha Tin this weekend.
“I think I’ve been quite lucky. A few people have thrown me up this week. On Sunday I’ve got a few different trainers using me, so fingers crossed I can get a win on the board and go from there,” said Kingscote, who began his second Hong Kong stint with a best finish of sixth from six Sha Tin rides last Sunday.
