Super Typhoon Ragasa cost Wrote A New Page a run at last week’s cancelled Happy Valley meeting and now connections of the in-form galloper are hoping Tropical Storm Matmo stays at bay long enough to ensure Saturday’s Sha Tin meeting goes ahead as planned.
Jockey Club officials are hopeful the worst of any weather won’t arrive until after Saturday’s card, meaning Wrote A New Page should be clear to chase a fourth straight success in the card-closing Class Three Nam Long Shan Handicap (1,800m).
Scheduled to run over nine furlongs at the Valley last week, Wrote A New Page will now head to Sha Tin to tackle the trip for the first time.
While Wrote A New Page is undefeated in three starts at the city circuit, Danny Shum Chap-shing’s four-year-old series hopeful has a best finish of second from five Sha Tin starts.

The draw hasn’t been kind to Wrote A New Page either, with the galloper hit with gate 13, but jockey Harry Bentley is hopeful the long run down the back straight from the 1,800m start will ensure he has plenty of options.
“The original plan was to run on the meeting that got cancelled due to the typhoon and this is the next race that is suitable for him,” said Bentley.
“He’ll have no issue at this course. He’s obviously run here before and the 1,800m is what he’s wanting now. He gave me every indication when I rode him at Happy Valley last time that the extra distance is going to suit him. It’ll help him, if anything.
“He’s coming into the race in very good form off the back of a win but also his preparation at home. He feels very good in the mornings, so I’m very happy coming into it.

“You see the draw and you think it’s very wide, but we have got a long time to get into position over the 1,800m and hopefully we can just slot in somewhere. I think he’s quite versatile as to what we can do with him so I’ll see what Danny wants me to do.”
Bentley has made a strong start to the season with four wins from the first seven meetings, including scooping three of the term’s four Class Two contests, and he’ll chase another success in the grade aboard Helene Feeling in the High West Handicap (1,650m) on the dirt.
Another Shum-trained galloper, Helene Feeling has only had one run on the dirt for a course-and-distance ninth, however Bentley sees no issues.
“He should be fine. He’s given me no indication when I’ve ridden him in trackwork that he won’t act on the surface. He’s obviously carrying quite a big weight but he’s in good order,” said Bentley of Helene Feeling, who must overcome gate 12 and 132lb.
“It’s been a great start to the season and I’d love to get another one [in Class Two] and other winners along the way. I’m coming into the race meeting with a healthy book of rides and it’d be nice to convert.”
