Keith Yeung Ming-lun will be looking to extend Fallon’s winning record over the 1,800m at Happy Valley on Wednesday night when they line-up in the Class Three Victoria Harbour Handicap.

The Tony Cruz-trained galloper’s last three wins have been at the course and distance, most recently with Yeung in the saddle.

Wednesday will see the son of Galileo Gold jump from barrier five, following three runs at Sha Tin from outside draws where he didn’t have conditions to suit.

“1,800m is the best distance for him and the inside barrier is going to help him a lot as well,” Yeung said.

Keith Yeung returns after winning aboard Fallon at Happy Valley.

“The last few races at Sha Tin he was drawn out, he was stuck behind runners and he suffered from the slow tempo as well, so he had no luck. I think things are going to be a lot different when he comes back to the Valley and jumps from the inside barrier.”

While the six-year-old has been tasked with carrying 135lb, Yeung believes that he is capable of shouldering the top weight.

“It’s always a concern especially for a longer distance like 1,800m, but he’s got the class and he’s back at his favourite track – he’s been performing so well over the distance and the track, so I still think he’s a positive chance,” Yeung said.

Fallon is well-known for his pre-race antics in the parade ring, however Yeung knows how to handle the hot-headed galloper, having been on board for three of his five wins in Hong Kong.

“He’s a funny horse, he’s got so much character. As soon as he gets on the grass he’s much better, he settles down,” Yeung said.

Yeung has two rides for David Hayes, including Absolute Awakened who seeks his second victory in the Class Four Tourism Cup (1,650m).

Absolute Awakened and Zac Purton triumph at Happy Valley.

The course and distance winner has his first start for Hayes after recently being transferred to the stable and will have the hood and tongue tie removed.

“David has removed all his gear and it seems he’s enjoying it. He’s been working so well in the morning and performs really well in trials, so we’re very happy with his progress,” Yeung said.

“He’s dropped a lot of points as well, so I think he’s going to be a good chance. He’s been finishing off really nicely when he’s ridden at his own speed, so I’ll wait and see how he jumps.”

Spicy Gold saw a return to form last start when running third behind Son Pak Fu for Jamie Richards and will look to improve at the same track and trip in the first section of the West Kowloon Handicap (1,200m).

The So You Think galloper has drawn barrier 10 and Yeung is positive he can put in another strong performance.

“It was my first time riding him, but his form over Happy Valley 1,200m is solid. He overcame the wide barrier over this trip last time and he ran a really, really good race, so I’m hoping he can do that again,” Yeung said.

Spicy Gold, ridden by Alexis Badel, scores at Happy Valley.

Yeung also combines with Mega Awesome in the first section of the Class Four Stanley Handicap (1,200m) where the three-year-old son of Hellbent has the benefit of barrier one at his third career start for Hayes.

“He’s a baby, he’s had a couple of races where he ran OK and I think this race is pretty weak,” Yeung said.

“We’ve drawn barrier one, so I think the barrier is going to help him massively, especially for a baby – the fence is going to help him get around the track. He’s not a bad horse, so I’m hoping he’ll run a good race for us.”

Smiling Emperor, Good Luck Win and Happy United round out Yeung’s book of rides on Wednesday night.
