Recap by phillip woo

Sparkling Sword was put to the test 500m out after stalking the leader Starlight, assumed the lead 200m out and just held off Argentum for a deserving win after seconds in four earlier runs this term. The reunion with Joao Moreira was the key in the end as the association now reads four wins from seven rides. Late-plunged favourite Argentum was closing the gap with every stride following a midfield run to make it close on the wire. He's running well over the mile trip at both tracks. Cash Courier finished nicely near the inside to just get the bob in for third ahead of Newswire Free following a rails run behind midfield. He was able to raise his game at this level following a Class Five placing over the 1,600m and he should remain competitive at the bottom of the weights. Newswire Free wasn't suited by the tempo but came on nicely after travelling second from the rear and with traffic issues early straight to just miss a placing. He's about a point or two from a bottom and can pop up at any time. Lightly-raced Daring Heart only plodded over the final 100m following a one-out, one-back run. He'll take home some valuable experience in his first run over the Valley track. Early favourite Starlight didn't quite get the trip after dictating the run. He's still a work in progress.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four: (385)-WAI YIP HANDICAP (Sec1) - Class 4 - 1650Metres

DARING HEART and CASH COURIER bumped at the start.

ACTUARIAT began awkwardly.

From wide barriers, PACKING GO GO and LUCKY PROFIT were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.

Approaching the 1300 Metres, ARGENTUM momentarily raced in restricted room inside INVISIBLE which shifted in.

LUCKY PROFIT lost its right hind plate near the 600 Metres.

In the Straight, DARING HEART lay in under pressure and proved difficult to ride and over the concluding stages was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SPARKLING SWORD.

Consequently, DARING HEART was not able to be fully tested, particularly over the concluding stages.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of EVEREST, B Prebble stated that he was able to overcome the wide barrier in the early stages by shifting in to a position one horse off the rail in midfield.

He said EVEREST enjoyed a trouble free run throughout the race and as it was felt by connections that the horse is one-paced, he shifted EVEREST to the outside of INVISIBLE approaching the 400 Metres to ensure that the horse had clear running.

He added rather than improve its position, EVEREST was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race.

He said the only possible reason that he could find for the horse's disappointing run was the fact that it was stepping up to the 1650 Metres of tonight's race and it may not have seen out the distance.

A veterinary inspection of EVEREST immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of LUCKY PROFIT immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer" which had previously been reported.

SPARKLING SWORD and ARGENTUM were sent for sampling.
