Recap by phillip woo

Top-weight Eagle Way finished strongly travelling one-off behind midfield to win going away 20m out in his first run at the Valley. His class rose to the top and will be a force to be reckoned with over 2,000m and further. Second favourite The Golden Age was collared late after giving a cheeky fight in front. He lost nothing in defeat and the future remains bright. Dinozzo stayed on well for a placing after taking off from near last at the 950m. The gate beat him. Favourite Marvel Hero didn't really make much ground after getting into the clear at the 200m following a midfield run. This was a bit too rich for him. Pikachu stuck on all right following a box-seat run but is on his mark. Citron Spirit couldn't recover in time to make his presence felt after getting baulked for a run at the 200m travelling fore of midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six: (334) - THE JANUARY CUP (HANDICAP) - Class G3 - 1800Meters

MARVEL HERO began only fairly and then shortly after the start was crowded for room between GENERAL SHERMAN which began awkwardly and CITRON SPIRIT which shifted out.

PACKING DRAGON was slow to begin and then was ridden along in an attempt to obtain a prominent position, however, near the 1700 Metres became unbalanced when bumped by DINOZZO.

PACKING DRAGON then had to be ridden along for a considerable distance to obtain a forward position, however, throughout the race travelled wide and without cover.

From the outside barrier, DINOZZO was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Despite being vigorously ridden along in the early stages, HARBOUR MASTER failed to muster speed.

Passing the 1300 Metres, GENERAL SHERMAN momentarily raced in restricted room inside HARBOUR MASTER and then near the 1050 Metres got its head up and became unbalanced.

GENERAL SHERMAN lost its right hind plate passing the 750 Metres.

CITRON SPIRIT was badly held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and passing the 250 Metres was checked when unable to improve between PACKING DRAGON and DINOZZO.

Passing the 200 Metres, PIKACHU was shifted to the outside of THE GOLDEN AGE to obtain clear running after being disappointed for a run inside that horse.

When PIKACHU was shifted out, MARVEL HERO was inconvenienced.

When questioned regarding the performance of DOYENI, B Prebble stated that after being shifted across behind runners from the wide barrier, DOYENI was reluctant to stretch out in the early stages despite being ridden along.

He said when being hard ridden to improve its position, DOYENI got its head up and would not race tractably.

He said it was not until near the 1200 Metres that DOYENI commenced to show more response to his riding.

He said he then had to ride the horse aggressively in the Back Straight in order to make up ground in an attempt to tack onto the main body of the field and it was not until after the 600 Metres that the horse was able to make up ground.

He added in the Straight DOYENI finished off the race fairly considering the manner in which it travelled in the early stages of the race.

A veterinary inspection of DOYENI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The racing manners of DOYENI were considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, DOYENI will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.

MARVEL HERO, EAGLE WAY and THE GOLDEN AGE were sent for sampling.
