Recap by phillip woo

Thumped late Hay Run came with a steady move late to grab victory close to home after being hustled following a slow break to hold a midfield position on the fence 1,400m out. He's always promised and finally delivered at his 26th start here. King's Man rushed to the front 200m out following a one-off run in midfield but found one better in the end. It was another solid effort over this dirt trip. The Joy Of Giving snatched third from leader Lotus Breeze following a patient ride at the rear of the field. He continues to add to his solid form off a light weight despite a return to Class Four. Lotus Breeze kept on all right after emerging with the lead following a mad dash for the front. He can produce a positive effort now and then. Above only got by struggling rivals with a move from near the back. Favourite Holy Unicorn couldn't muster to lead from the widest gate and was gone a long way out. He didn't handle the wet going. Same for Remarkable whose mid-race effort was short lived.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (479) - FREESIA HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1800Meters

HAY RUN began very awkwardly and lost ground.

Despite being hard ridden for some distance in the early stages, HOLY UNICORN (M Chadwick) failed to muster speed and consequently raced back and for the majority of the race travelled wide and without cover.

After the race, M Chadwick stated that his mount did not travel at any stage of the race which, in his opinion, was due to the track conditions.

A veterinary inspection of HOLY UNICORN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of HOLY UNICORN, favourite for today's race and which had won its past two starts on the All Weather Track, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, HOLY UNICORN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Approaching the 1400 Metres, TENNESSEE BOSS travelled keenly when being steadied to obtain cover.

Approaching the 1200 Metres, KING'S MAN got its head up when being checked away from the heels of BRING IT ON.

KING'S MAN then shifted out, resulting in REMARKABLE being checked when crowded for room inside HOLY UNICORN.

Near the 450 Metres, ENFOLDING, which was giving ground abruptly, was momentarily steadied when crowded for room between TENNESSEE BOSS and BRING IT ON (G van Niekerk) which shifted in.

G van Niekerk was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

After this, ENFOLDING continued to give ground abruptly, causing THE JOY OF GIVING to be awkwardly placed behind that horse near the 400 Metres.

A veterinary inspection of REMARKABLE and ENFOLDING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performances of REMARKABLE and ENFOLDING, both of which finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, REMARKABLE and ENFOLDING will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

HOLY UNICORN, HAY RUN and KING'S MAN were sent for sampling.
