Frankie Lor Fu-chuen is confident an ideal draw in barrier four has British import Symbol Of Strength well placed to make it back-to-back victories in Wednesday night’s Class Three Kwu Tong Handicap (1,200m) at Happy Valley.
Lor’s promising four-year-old has kept improving since arriving in Hong Kong at the end of last season after striking at Group Three level over 1,200m at Kempton pre-import.
The son of Kodiac broke through for his first Hong Kong victory at start nine when scoring by a neck with Luke Ferraris in the saddle, and the South African jockey will once again take the reins on Wednesday night.
“You can see in his last few starts he just keeps improving. I put Luke on and every time he gets better and better, and then last start he won the race for me,” Lor said.

While Symbol Of Strength has been tasked with the top weight of 135lb, his favourable draw has boosted Lor’s confidence.
“This time we’ve also got a good draw and I think we have a chance with him,” Lor said.
Lor’s representation in Wednesday night’s trio of Class Threes also includes Horsepower, who will jump as top weight in the Rotary Centenary Challenge Cup (1,000m) with Zac Purton on board.
The Harry Angel galloper has proven most effective over the course and distance, having won twice with Purton on board – also carrying 135lb at his most recent win.
“Happy Valley over 1,000m should be better. The draw [in barrier 10] is not that good, if he drew a little further in it would be better. His trial was good. I think the pace should be fast and I think it’s good for us,” Lor said.
Stable stalwart Keefy has returned to form in his last few runs at the Valley and the two-time track and distance winner will have the services of Matthew Poon Ming-fai once again in the Class Three Fanling Handicap (1,650m).

“Because he’s an old horse I just like to keep everything fine and healthy. I think this season, because he’s getting older, 1,650m may be a little bit short. Last start at 1,800m he looked a bit better,” Lor said of the seven-year-old, who followed an eye-catching fourth two runs ago with a solid third.
Lor is hoping the application of visors for the first time will give the veteran an edge.
“This time I’ve changed the gear for him. I put the visors on him to make him concentrate more when he jumps, and if he can travel better, it will be good for him,” Lor said.
Glorious Journey has performed consistently at both Happy Valley and Sha Tin over the 1,650m trip and will stick to the distance when ridden by Vincent Ho Chak-yiu in the second section of the Class Four Tsuen Wan Handicap (1,650m).

“He’s still in good form, last start he was just beaten by a head. He will carry a big weight this time, but he’s got a good draw. I hope he can win this race for the owner,” Lor said.
The Sacred Falls galloper is well drawn in barrier two to do minimal early work and be saved for a final run at his rivals.
“I think Pierre’s [Ng Pang-chi’s] horse [Frantanck] will go forward, at least some of the horses will go forward, but if the pace is normal that’s OK,” Lor said.
Lor’s Wednesday contingent is completed by Absolute Awakened in the first section of the Class Four Tsuen Wan Handicap (1,650m) and Origin Of Form in the second section of the Class Four Kwai Chung Handicap (1,200m).
