Recap by phillip woo

Rank outsider Travel First just held off Glorious Dragon after hitting the front from firming favourite Happy Dragon at the 100m following a pace-stalking run one off behind High Volatility for a fourth career win. Glorious Dragon ran on strongly to make it close following a patient ride fourth from the back. Happy Dragon found a couple too smart after briefly poking his head in front near the 150m following a dream run in the box-seat. The big weight anchored him late. High Volatility grudgingly gave way after finding the front from gate one at the bottom of the weights. Rocketeer kept on without menacing following a prominent run with cover from a wide gate. He's still trying to find a bottom. Dances With Dragon came up flat travelling better than midfield on the fence. He's more effective ridden further back in the run. Dynamic Eagle came up one-paced in midfield. Of late, he has been more effective on the Sha Tin turf.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of TRAVEL FIRST, Mr C H Yip, the trainer of TRAVEL FIRST, stated that whilst the horse had not been beaten by big margins in its recent races on the turf, nonetheless it had raced disappointingly.

He said he was of the opinion that TRAVEL FIRST was suited when ridden in a forward position as the track appeared to be favouring horses on the speed in a number of races conducted tonight.

He said when able to race in a forward position, TRAVEL FIRST relaxed better which resulted in the horse being able to finish off its race.

He said he had not altered the track work of TRAVEL FIRST in the lead up to tonight's race with the horse travelling up to Conghua Racecourse in between races which was consistent with the manner in which he had prepared the horse for all of its recent races.

He added whilst he felt that TRAVEL FIRST carrying a light weight would be to its advantage, nonetheless he did not anticipate that the horse would be able to perform as well as it did.
