Recap by phillip woo

Firming favourite Perfect Glory got up 100m out for the win after being tucked in behind the speed on the fence. He relished a return to the course and distance of an earlier win following a nice break. First Responder stayed on very well to finish a clear-cut second after taking over the lead from Fantastic Fabio at the 300m. He seemed to appreciate the tongue-tie in his first start under the night lights. Blitzing had his chance travelling effectively one-out, one-back. He's had a terrific campaign but is likely on his mark. Fantastic Fabio gradually faded after getting his own way in front. Prefer him in Class Four. Confucius Day ran on late from near the back to just miss a Quartet spot. He does appear from his past two start to be approaching a bottom. Ballistic King stayed on reasonably well despite a tough run without cover the entire trip in midfield. My Ally ran on without menacing after a patient ride one from the back. He's better suited over a longer trip.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (627) - CHEUNG SHA WAN HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

BEAUTY SPARK was withdrawn on 30.4.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left hind).

ALCARI was also withdrawn on 30.4.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inappetence).

Before being allowed to race again, BEAUTY SPARK and ALCARI will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

As the start was effected, HAPPY FAMILY, which had been standing well in the barriers, reared and consequently lost a considerable amount of ground.

Having regard to HAPPY FAMILY's recent barrier manners, the Stewards ruled that that horse must barrier trial satisfactorily prior to being permitted to race again.

After travelling a short distance, BLITZING and KA YING LEGEND bumped, causing both horses to become unbalanced.

From the outside barriers, MY ALLY and ZERO HEDGE were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Making the turn near the 1050 Metres, MY ALLY became unbalanced of its own accord.

When being steadied approaching the 1000 Metres, PERFECT GLORY commenced to travel keenly and got its head up on a number of occasions.

For some distance passing the 800 Metres, BLITZING was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FIRST RESPONDER (C Schofield) which shifted in when not properly clear.

C Schofield was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he provides proper clearance before shifting ground in similar circumstances.

For the majority of the race, BALLISTIC KING travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of KA YING LEGEND, M L Yeung stated that although KA YING LEGEND was required to race three wide, the horse had cover throughout the race behind BALLISTIC KING.

He said KA YING LEGEND travelled satisfactorily in the middle stages, however, when placed under pressure after the 500 Metres did not respond and then rounding the Home Turn commenced to give ground.

He said in the early part of the Straight KA YING LEGEND continued to give ground despite being ridden along and when the horse weakened abruptly near the 200 Metres, he eased it down as its action deteriorated.

He added, based on the manner in which KA YING LEGEND weakened in the early part of the Straight, he felt that something may have been amiss with the horse.

A veterinary inspection of KA YING LEGEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.

The performance of KA YING LEGEND, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, KA YING LEGEND will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

PERFECT GLORY and FIRST RESPONDER were sent for sampling.
