Recap by phillip woo

Charizard came with a bold move after splitting rivals 250m out following a patient ride second from the rear to deny Happy Fun 20m out for a third victory this term. Wellbacked Happy Fun shook off a challenge for the front from High Volatility, established nearly a four-length lead mid-straight and was cut down late. Picken rallied to finish a non-threatening third after a one-off run behind midfield. He's honest over this trip. Rank outsider Ultimate Glory ran on well from the back of the field to nearly place. He's honest as the day is long and never one to write off over this trip. Punted late Sonic Fighter stayed on without threatening sitting one off in midfield. He'll need to raise his game to be winning in this grade. Favourite Silver Fig was on his tippy toes 150m out after a prominent run without cover. He had an excuse. Fenrir stayed on all right travelling worse than midfield after a sluggish start. It was a positive debut effort.

Racing Incident Report

Race Ten: (760) - AMAH ROCK HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1400Meters

FENRIR began very awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and made heavy contact with SILVER FIG which became badly unbalanced.

SILVER FIG then shifted in after bumping SONIC FIGHTER, causing FENRIR to be hampered.

GOLD WIN shifted out at the start and bumped CHARIZARD.

A short distance after this, GOLD WIN raced tight between CHARIZARD and SONIC FIGHTER which shifted out.

From wide barriers, DECISIVE ACTION, ULTIMATE GLORY and MIGHTY MAVERICK were all steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover.

Passing the 1300 Metres, SILVER FIG raced tight inside SONIC FIGHTER.

Approaching the 1000 Metres, PICKEN got its head on the side and shifted in, resulting in FENRIR being crowded for room.

Making the turn near the 800 Metres, FENRIR was steadied away from the heels of LITTLE WISE MAN which was steadied after racing tight inside SILVER FIG.

FENRIR had difficulty obtaining clear running near the 300 Metres and approaching the 250 Metres was shifted in away from the heels of PEOPLE'S KNIGHT which was commencing to give ground.

In the Straight, SONIC FIGHTER raced with its head on the side and lay in under pressure.

N Callan, the rider of SILVER FIG, 6th placegetter, was fined $3,000 for failing to weigh in after the race as required.

The performance of GOLD WIN, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, GOLD WIN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of GOLD WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.

After the race, Z Purton said that after being ridden along in the early stages to obtain a forward position from the wide barrier, PEOPLE'S KNIGHT did not travel comfortably throughout the race and, in his opinion, may not have appreciated the "Good to Firm??racing surface.

A veterinary inspection of PEOPLE'S KNIGHT immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm.

Before being allowed to race again, PEOPLE'S KNIGHT will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

When questioned regarding the performance of SILVER FIG, N Callan stated that he was instructed to take up a forward position if possible.

He said after being hampered at the start, he had to ride his mount along for some distance in the early stages to obtain a prominent position as instructed.

He said after being able to shift in and obtain cover behind PEOPLE'S KNIGHT near the 800 Metres, SILVER FIG relaxed well, however, after showing some response at the entrance to the Straight, the horse then came under pressure after the 300 Metres and finished off the race only one-paced.

He added he suggested to connections that SILVER FIG may be better suited by being ridden more patiently in its future starts if circumstances permit.

A veterinary inspection of SILVER FIG immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of LITTLE WISE MAN, M L Yeung stated that, from barrier 2, he was asked to obtain a position behind the speed if possible.

He said whilst LITTLE WISE MAN was able to take up a forward position, he had to ride the horse along and pressure it to be in the position it was.

He said after the 1100 Metres LITTLE WISE MAN was not comfortable racing tight inside SILVER FIG and for this reason he elected, rather than continue to push LITTLE WISE MAN to maintain its position, to allow SILVER FIG to cross LITTLE WISE MAN near the 800 Metres and took a trailing position behind that horse.

He said when he did this LITTLE WISE MAN relaxed well and commenced to travel better.

He added after being shifted to the outside of SILVER FIG rounding the Home Turn, LITTLE WISE MAN then quickened nicely in the early part of the Straight, however, its run ended near the 200 Metres and the horse finished off the race only fairly over the latter stages of the race.

He said LITTLE WISE MAN was having only its 6th start today and, in his opinion, is somewhat immature as evidenced by the horse's reluctance to maintain its position inside SILVER FIG.

A veterinary inspection of LITTLE WISE MAN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of DIAMOND RHYME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.

SILVER FIG, CHARIZARD and HAPPY FUN were sent for sampling.

16 June 2019 Sha Tin Racemeeting - Race 7 (746) After reviewing the videos of last Sunday's Sha Tin racemeeting, as is standard practice, the Stewards felt it was appropriate to question Jockey G van Niekerk (IRISH VEGA) today as to whether he had the opportunity to shift his mount to the outside of INTREPIC near the 100 Metres and provide IRISH VEGA with clear and uninterrupted running over the concluding stages.

On the day in question, the Stewards reported that IRISH VEGA was awkwardly placed inside the heels of INTREPIC over the concluding stages and consequently was not able to be tested.

G van Niekerk stated that after shifting IRISH VEGA to the outside of GIFT OF LIFELINE at the entrance to the Straight and commencing to place his mount under pressure, INTREPIC improved quickly to the outside of IRISH VEGA and commenced to gain a margin over his mount approaching and passing the 200 Metres.

He said after the 200 Metres INTREPIC commenced to shift in gradually under pressure which obliged him to put the whip away and near the 100 Metres he commenced to shift IRISH VEGA out to come to the outside of INTREPIC which he anticipated would continue to shift in under pressure.

He added however at this stage he felt that his mount was too close to the heels of INTREPIC to safely manoeuvre to the outside of that horse and moreover he noticed that INTREPIC had straightened up and which presented a clear run between that horse and GIFT OF LIFELINE which shifted in.

He said after recommitting to the inside of INTREPIC, GIFT OF LIFELINE shifted out which resulted in IRISH VEGA being disappointed for a run and then being held up over the concluding stages.

G van Niekerk was advised that his comments would be reported, however, he was reminded of his obligation to provide his mounts with clear running at the earliest opportunity.
