Recap by phillip woo

Telecom Speed responded nicely to get up 100m out after a one-off run forward of midfield for a first win at his 10th local start. He had been knocking on the door in three prior starts and could remain competitive up in grade off a light weight now that the penny has dropped. Cheong Fat roared home late to finish a close second after biding his time three from the rear on the fence. He's naturally come to hand in his four starts. Above All stayed on well for third after getting all the favours in the box seat. It was his best run of the campaign after winning three times last season. Precision Goal kept on gamely for fourth after rushing to the lead from a wide draw 1,050m out. It was his best run from five starts with a switch to the Valley. Firming favourite Stormtrouper made a mild bid from midfield. He's well rated and should get away with a race down the line. Winwin Thirtythree ran on without menacing from the rear of the field. He's itching for a return to Class Five and 1,400m. Timestorm was held up for the majority of the straight after making his run from behind midfield. He should have finished closer.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (609) - DAEJEON HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

SUPER KING was withdrawn on 25.4.23 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (heart irregularity) and was replaced by Standby declared Starter ABOVE ALL (R Maia).

CHEONG FAT jumped only fairly.

CAMINO jumped awkwardly and then shortly after the start was bumped by ABOVE ALL which shifted out, resulting in CAMINO becoming unbalanced.

HERO STAR and WINWIN THIRTYTHREE bumped at the start.

PRECISION GOAL lost its left front plate shortly after the start.

SCOTCH TYCOON and AESTHETICISM were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Passing the 1100 Metres, TIMESTORM became awkwardly placed close to TELECOM SPEED when being shifted in to obtain cover and as a result TIMESTORM was steadied away from the heels of TELECOM SPEED.

Making the first turn, TELECOM SPEED lay in despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in STORMTROUPER being crowded for a short distance thereafter.

After the 600 Metres, HERO STAR was eased when crowded between CAMINO and PRECISION GOAL which lay out.

Approaching the 300 Metres, STORMTROUPER became momentarily held up behind ABOVE ALL before shifting to that runner's inside to obtain clear running after the 300 Metres.

For a short distance near the 100 Metres, SCOTCH TYCOON, which was commencing to give ground, raced in restricted room between SEE U AGAIN and CHEONG FAT which shifted out slightly.

When questioned regarding his riding of CAMINO, L Ferraris advised his instructions were to have his mount settle where comfortable but to endeavour to find cover.

He said in the early stages CAMINO was obliged to race wide and without cover and as a result raced keenly and got its head up in the middle stages.

He added that near the 600 Metres he allowed CAMINO to stride forward in an attempt to have his mount settle, however, CAMINO continued to race keenly when it improved to the outside of HERO STAR.

He said when under pressure in the Home Straight CAMINO hung in and proved difficult to ride out to the finish.

When questioned regarding his riding of TIMESTORM in the Straight, M Chadwick advised that after following CAMINO into the Home Straight, he became held up behind CAMINO and initially was looking to shift to the outside of that runner.

He added that when he noticed L Ferraris, the rider of CAMINO, to be directing his mount's head out near the 250 Metres, he then elected to shift to the inside of CAMINO to secure clear running and in doing so made contact with HERO STAR, resulting in HERO STAR becoming unbalanced.

M Chadwick was advised to exercise more care.

He said he was then able to place TIMESTORM under pressure until near the 150 Metres when he was disappointed for running between CAMINO and ABOVE ALL which was taken out by PRECISION GOAL.

He further stated that after shifting back to the inside of ABOVE ALL near the 125 Metres, he again recommenced riding his mount along, but over the final 50 Metres was held up behind PRECISION GOAL and could not ride his mount out to the finish of the event.

After considering M Chadwick's explanation, the Stewards found the tactics he adopted by shifting to the inside of CAMINO was reasonable in the circumstances.

A veterinary inspection of HERO STAR immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm.

Before being allowed to race again, HERO STAR will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of SCOTCH TYCOON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

STORMTROUPER, TELECOM SPEED and CHEONG FAT were sent for sampling.
