Recap by phillip woo

Casa Cosmo drew clear after hitting the lead 250m out following a one-off trip from midfield for a maiden local win at his 15th start. He was able to build on a pace-stalking fourth at the Valley. Reach Goal ran on nicely near the outside to grab second 50m out at huge odds following a patient ride three from the rear. It was a return to form after two dull efforts at the Valley. Firming favourite Devas Twelve plugged on one-paced when finally gaining a clear run just underneath the 200m following a rail run from better than midfield. Fruity Warrior came with a ducking-and-weaving run for fourth after a rail run from behind midfield. He's shown flashes of ability in his four starts. Satirical Glory just whacked away after a handy run along the inside. He's more effective over a mile trip. Flying Silver made some ground without threatening near the outside after a patient ride second last from gate 13. Forever Folks made headway late from towards the rear to finish next best. Special Hedge weakened after sitting wide near the speed.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four : (506) - SAI WAN SHAN HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1800Meters

Horse No 1 DEVAS TWELVE (H435) Z Purton Jumped awkwardly.

A Atzeni (CIRCUIT BLAZING) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 900 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of NINJA DERBY, resulting in NINJA DERBY being crowded for room and taken in across the running of DEVAS TWELVE, resulting in DEVAS TWELVE having to be checked.

A Atzeni was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 31 March 2024 and to expire on Thursday, 4 April 2024 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his good race riding record.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 SATIRICAL GLORY (H073) B Thompson When questioned, B Thompson stated that his instructions were to hold a forward position preferably with cover, but he was given the option to allow his mount to lead if it did not settle in the early stages.

He said after being crossed by NINJA DERBY and obtaining cover near the 1200 Meres SATIRICAL GLORY then commenced to race keenly, got its head up and was steadied away from NINJA DERBY for some distance thereafter.

Trainer D A Hayes confirmed the instructions issued and advised that once SATIRICAL GLORY had been crossed by FOREVER GLORIOUS in the early stages, he agreed with Jockey Thompson that there was not an opportunity to allow SATIRICAL GLORY to lead the event and in hindsight SATIRICAL GLORY would be better suited by being able to dictate terms in the lead.

SATIRICAL GLORY continued to over-race throughout the middle stages and refused to settle.

Near the 1000 Metres was momentarily crowded by FURY AND GOLD which shifted in before being corrected by its rider H Bentley.

Horse No 3 SPECIAL HEDGE (H354) C L Chau Shortly after the start was crowded by NINJA DERBY which shifted in and as a result made contact with the hindquarters of FOREVER GLORIOUS.

Near the 1000 Metres was steadied away from FURY AND GOLD and was then shifted out to avoid that runner's heels.

From the 700 Metres raced wide and without cover.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

C L Chau pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 300 Metres (see CHATEAU).

Horse No 4 CIRCUIT BLAZING (H479) A Atzeni Crowded near the 300 Metres when giving ground.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of FURY AND GOLD, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.
