Recap by phillip woo

Nice Birdie led 50m out after settling one off the rail better than midfield to ring up a second win in Class Five from 12 starts this term. He's not easy to get right but was able to back up a runner-up effort over the dirt 1,800m last Wednesday. Happy Hero found one too good after surging to the lead 150m out. It was a return to form on return to the 2,200m distance of a runner-up performance in January. Colourful Baron wouldn't go down without a fight after having to work to lead from gate 11. It was another good effort in defeat trying the 2,200m for the first time. After settling in the box seat, Golden Fairy rushed to the lead 200m out but weakened to finish a distant fourth. It was another honest effort over the 2,200m. Arthur's Kingdom ran on steadily after turning the final bend in midfield on the fence. He might be near a bottom but he appears to be better over a shorter trip. Favourite Loyal Ambition only plodded when asked for an effort after settling near the speed one off the rail from gate 10. Diamond Winner ran on without threatening from the rear of the field.
