Recap by phillip woo

Late-fancied Ivy League caused repeated interference when failing to keep a straight line in the straight drive but did hold off Simply Maverick after surging to the lead 200m out. Favourite Simply Maverick came up short by a bob of the heads after settling one off the rail behind midfield. It was another solid effort returning to his favourite Valley course. Chain Of Gold ran on nicely for third after making his run second last from gate 12. He's flashed ability to place in two of five starts. Noble Pursuit came from near last and widest out but just missed a placing. He's got the tools to win again shortly over this course. Eighteen Palms finished next best after getting checked in deep stretch by the winner after tracking the speed. He had an excuse. Hameron was impeded close to home with his move along the inside from near last. He's gone close in his past two of three starts. Show Respect had to take hold when the winner lugged in 200m out after a handy run. Lovero was badly hampered approaching the 200m following a hard run on the speed from gate 11.

Horse No 6 EIGHTEEN PALMS (H033) A Badel When the pace steadied near the 900 Metres commenced to race keenly and was steadied away from LOVERO.

The Stewards considered a protest/objection lodged by Mr C S Shum, trainer of 5th placegetter, EIGHTEEN PALMS, against IVY LEAGUE being declared the winner alleging interference over the concluding stages.

After considering the evidence, the Stewards overruled the protest/objection when they found that whilst IVY LEAGUE had shifted in, crowding and resulting in EIGHTEEN PALMS being checked, they were not satisfied that had such interference not occurred, EIGHTEEN PALMS would have finished in advance of IVY LEAGUE.

Weighed-in was declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge.

At a subsequent inquiry, Mr Shum was fined the sum of $5,000 for lodging a frivolous protest/objection.
