PHILIP WOO’S FORMLINE

Beauty Generation has won the past two Hong Kong Miles but has looked mortal in defeat in his past two starts and this only gets harder. As such, we'll take him on and go with Indy Champ, who is the top miler in Japan following Group One victories in June's Yasuda Kinen and last month's Mile Championship and has the tactical speed to be well-positioned to strike from gate three. Ever-improving Waikuku placed at group level behind Beauty Generation and then Rise High to start this term before slipping through along the inside to win the Jockey Club Mile latest. He's one of the chances. Three-year-old Admire Mars has won five of six outings in Japan over the 1,600m, including the NHK Mile Cup two back against his own age group, and will have options to lead or take the sit from gate four. He'll go close. Ka Ying Star needs a career effort but has done well on or tracking the speed to fill the frame in each of his three runs this term, including second in that Waikuku race despite a tough, breeze-punching run, and should get every chance from gate one.

TROUBLE IN RUNNING

BEAUTY GENERATION (V380)the Stewards inquired into rider's riding in the early stages with evidence also taken from rider of the 2nd placegetter The Stewards accepted that when being ridden along in the early stages the horse got its head on the side and lay out with its head directed in and also at that stage not affecting the running of the 2nd placegetter It was further found that after racing relatively truly for a short distance, the horse shifted out passing the 1500M and particularly approaching the 1400M That resulted in the 2nd placegetter getting its head on the side and shifting out away from the horse as it continued to shift out After considering all the evidence, rider was advised that the Stewards had concerns that a more concerted effort was not made to straighten the horse near the 1500M to prevent it from shifting out and causing the 2nd placegetter to shift out wider Rider was severely reprimanded and told that there is an expectation that horses remain racing truly and that riders ensure that they make every endeavour to prevent their mounts from shifting ground and causing interference to other runners - Race 175 PERSIAN KNIGHT (C803)began awkwardly - Race 242
